Fu Guilan’s life was full of hardships and miseries, the greatest of which happened after her contact with Falun Gong. She lived such a short life and died at the age of only 53. Speaking of her early death, Ms. Liu, one of her colleagues, sighed and said, “It was the Falun Gong cult that destroyed her .” Falun Gong not only destroyed her but also destroyed her beloved husband..When her neighbors, colleagues and friends looked back on her tragedy, they all recalled it with a sigh of deep feelings as well as incomparable resentment against the evil cult.
Fu Guilan was born in August 1949. She became an orphan at a very young age, and was taken to Harbin by her foster mother. She graduated from a junior high school and then worked in a grocery. She did her work so hard and excellent that she was praised many times by her leaders. Later, she got married and had a happy family of her own which was full of warmth and sweetness.
However, she couldn’t get pregnant for a long time after they were married. After a medical examination, they were frustrated to learn that she was born with infertility. But soon after, they adopted a baby girl with the help of their relatives and friends. The arrival of the baby girl filled the house with laughter again, which unfortunately didn’t last long before hardships of life befell her again that her husband passed away.
The death of her husband traumatized her deeply. Luckily, she had many relatives, friends and colleagues to stand by her side so that she could gradually recover from the pain with their support. Later, she started a new family again. According to Ms. Zhao, one of her close friends, the couple loved each other very much.
In 1992, Fu Guilan suffered from serious chronic gynecological diseases. After a period of treatment, she still wasn’t fully cured. So she started to turn to psychics for treatments as she was always superstitious. In her opinion, that perfectly explained why“you have to believe in supernatural powers if there is a family member sick in bed.” Although her relatives and friends tried their best to persuade her into believe in modern medical science and doctors rather than sorcerers, she stuck firmly to her own opinion and continued to look for psychics, hoping that they could help relieve her troubles and pains. Psychics that she found either performed exorcism or prayed for her by burning incense to gods. But no matter what they did, their efforts changed nothing, except that she was getting poorer and poorer for paying the ritual bills.
Just when she was suffering from the difficulty of finding a real psychic, the popular enthusiasm for practising Qigong was sweeping over the whole country with a variety of forms of Qigong springing up suddenly, among which Falun Gong emerged under the guise of “curing diseases and keeping fit”. Since Li Hongzhi’s heretical fallacies are extremely beguiling and alluring, many innocent but gullible people tended to fall for his lies. And that was exactly how Fu Guilan was coerced into the Falun Gong cult.
Fu Guilan got carried away by its false propaganda of “the cure to all diseases”. After careful comparison, she drew a conclusion that the capability of the “Master” Li Hongzhi was far beyond that of all psychics she found before. First of all, Falun Gong was good at mind tricks to make people believe that practitioners could obtain supernatural powers. After learning “Dafa” and practicing Falun Gong, Fu Guilan gradually felt that she was finally recovering from the gynecological diseases that had been torturing her for years, which none of those psychics that she turned to could achieve. Although believing in Falun Gong costed her a lot of money to buy cult books, she was fine with it in that she thought it was totally necessary to learn “Dafa”. Furthermore, in her mind, learning “Dafa” could bring about many benefits including but not limited to improving capability, getting into a higher level, remaining youthful forever, becoming an immortal, reaching consummation, being led to heaven made of gold by the “Master” Li Hongzhi, etc.
After shifting her belief from psychics to “Dafa”, Fu Guilan was so obsessed with “Dafa” that she started to have the delusion that she could succeed in “cultivation”(become immortal) in the future. Little by little, under the influence of her “Master’s” obscure scriptures, her mind fell into an illusory state, becoming more and more muddled in the name of continuous spiritual enlightenment. At the same time, her position in the local Falun Gong cult organization was getting higher and higher. At first, she was appointed as the head of the Falun Gong training station in Dongli district. Later, she was promoted to be the vice chief of the Falun Gong training station in Harbin city.
With Li Hongzhi’s growing political ambitions, Falun Gong cult started to reveal its true colors by gradually abandoning its hypocritical mask of “Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance”. By then, Fu Guilan completely became a mere puppet manipulated by her “Master”, Li Hongzhi. Instigated by fallacies of Falun Gong cult, she participated many illegal gatherings to siege media centers or government departments in the name of “safeguarding Dafa”. Since the November 1998, the Falun Gong cult had organized and incited its followers to surround the general office of the Harbin Daily on several occasions, and Fu Guilan was among them each time. Moreover, she also took part in the illegal activity of besieging government building of the Heilongjiang Province. On April 25, 1999, bewitched by Falun Gong propaganda, especially the lie that “this is the last chance to reach consummation”, which Li Hongzhi had purposely claimed as a live bait to draw followers, Fu Guilan unwittingly went along with other practitioners to Beijing and unlawfully rallied right outside the Zhongnanhai Compound, a place where top Chinese leaders lived and worked.
However, her true cultivation wasn’t rewarded with any fortune like what her “Master” Li Hongzhi preached. On the contrary, harmful consequences started to appear, which she inflicted upon herself due to her obsession with practicing “Dafa” for a long time. Not only was her physical condition declining day by day but also her suffering from more miscellaneous diseases than before, such as anemia, because of her long-term irregular life and wrong belief in the so-called “eliminating karma to cure diseases” fallacy. Even so, she still believed that her “Master” Li Hongzhi was helping her eliminating karma all the time, and that his “Dharmakaya” were protecting her from any harm all along.
Ms. Zhao said that, at that time, everyone was trying to talk Fu Guilan out of believing in Falun Gong, hoping she could listen to them and go to doctors as soon as possible. However, not only did she ignore everyone’s advice, but also she took the opportunity to spread “Dafa” to friends, trying to persuade them to practice Falun Gong together with her. Because she refused to see doctors or take medicines for years, her chronic gynecological diseases deteriorated into ovarian cancer at last.
On August 10, 2002, Fu Guilan, a “Falun Gong disciple of true cultivation” misled by Li Hongzhi, died on the path to the so-called “consummation”. If money is what those psychics are after, then lives are what “Dafa” reaps.
Fu Guilan died in great pain, but Falun Gong inflicted much more suffering to her than that. By the time she got destroyed by the cult, her beloved husband had already passed away.
It was the fallacies of Falun Gong cult that got her husband destroyed as well. At first, when he suffered from liver disease, he could’ve got fully recovered if he had been treated in time. However, because Fu Guilan was strongly opposed to her husband receiving any medical treatment, his liver disease finally developed to liver cancer. While in her illusion that one person in the family practicing Falun Gong could benefit the whole family, her husband closed his eyes for good in despair.
A happy family was shattered by Fu Guilan’s “cultivation”. However, Fu’s neighbors, friends and colleagues have never forgotten her over the years. Whenever it comes to Fu Guilan, they always warn others never to believe in Falun Gong and to keep away from any cults.
